Discovery

BLA approaches each project with a design process rooted in a thorough understanding of the site and an active collaboration with the owner and design team. The process begins with an immersive site exploration to collect, study, and document the natural and contextual forces that shape the land.
While every site is unique, key considerations often include views, climate and solar aspect, hydrology, soils, flora and fauna, topography, and historical context. These elements, combined with the project program and the architectural vision, aid in guiding BLA’s development of innovative and sustainable design solutions.

Early in the process and with a comprehensive understanding of a site’s inherent and contextual forces, our studio explores multiple design directions to foster an open, collaborative dialogue so as to arrive at a final concept that reflects the full potential of the site and the shared vision of the team.
