Calistoga Ranch
Sited on a gently rolling, oak-studded site above the town of Calistoga, this agrarian inspired retreat was designed as a modern wine country getaway. The surrounding landscape complements the home’s intimately scaled interiors, creating a sense of expansiveness while softly opening to the broader natural context.
The arrival sequence was carefully choreographed to engage a mature grove of sculptural madrone trees, leading visitors into a quiet compound of structures. A stone guest house and the main residence, connected by a covered dining court and a concrete runnel, are nestled among mature oaks and an olive orchard that frame views of the pool and the meadow terrace below.
*Calistoga Ranch was designed and completed while Michael was employed by Ground Studio.

A board formed concrete water feature frames the arrival to the home and activates the experience with a gentle trickle of water along a brass-lined runnel.
