Golden Oak
Perched atop an oak studded knoll in Portola Valley, this home and landscape were renovated in collaboration with Feldman Architects. Originally designed by Swatt Miers Architects, this modern home of concrete and glass was purchased by a young family with a keen interest in celebrating the refined + bold design sensibilities of the original architecture. With the addition of an ADU and infinity edge lap pool, the landscape design takes cues from the blurred definition of indoor and outdoor space as well as the strong geometries inherent to the architecture.
As a contrast to the built forms, expansive and textural native grasses soften and weave the peripheral landscape spaces together while referencing the oak savanna habitat indicative of regional coastal foothills.

The garden activates the home's series of portals with rich landscape spaces that share a unified design parti, both in form and materials.
